What if Life was a writable and hackable technology? Lea Barre designs curious biological experiments and speculative fictions, telling stories of alternative nows through Art.
Coming from a troubled childhood marked by homelessness, her projects explore science as a form of survival with the desire to escape expected scenarios. They explore alternative living scenarios by combining laboratory experiments, designed objects and speculative narratives. She is particularly interested in new technologies and science-fiction to hack the intersection of fiction and reality. Her work sits in between science-fantasy, biohacking, alternative living and other potential realities.
Lea Barre (French, b. 1992) will be graduating from the Royal College of Art in London in June 2021.
